What could be cuter than a quilted homespun baby bib! Very practical and attractive and can often be created with your leftover homespun squares. See more photos and instructions below.
Materials:
40 - 4" homespun quilt squares*
1/4 - 1/2 yards quilt batting
1/4 - 1/2 yards of homespun fabric
* You may cut your own squares or purchase them on this website or on eBay, but be sure you get HOMESPUN fabric squares. Regular cotton does not fray well.

Stitch doubled (two layers) homespun squares together to make a panel 4 squares by 5 squares with 5/8" seams.

All backstitching to secure the seams must be done 5/8" from all edges. Otherwise the backstitching will be lost when the homespun "frays".

Iron flat.

Cut a piece of homespun fabric in your preferred bib shape/size.

Cut a piece of batting in the same shape, but 1 inch smaller on all sides than your homespun bib.

Place the patchwork panel flat with the seams side down. Center the homespun bib shape on top.

Trim the patchwork panel to the same size as the homespun shape.

Place the batting between the two to make a "sandwich". Pin well.

Stitch around the edges making a 5/8" seam allowance and being sure to keep the batting inside the stitch line. Batting should NOT extend into the seam allowance.

Stitch again making a 1" allowance this time. The purpose of this second seam is to stitch the batting into place so that it will not roll when washed.

Clip the seams allowances and edges 1/2" deep and 1/2" apart being very careful to not clip into the stitching.

Add Velcro at the back for fastening.

Machine wash on cold using detergent and liquid fabric softener. (optional) Shake before drying to remove loose strings.
